During our trip to Iceland in June 2025, we were lucky enough to observe and photograph the cute puffins up close. I have now selected the best pictures and put them together in a new picture calendar.
The calendar shows the cute puffins of Iceland in various situations. It features high-resolution photos of the birds in flight, on the cliffs, and even with their typical prey (sand eels) in their colorfull bills.
Iceland is home to one of the world’s largest puffin colonies, which breed on the cliffs and enliven the coastline between May and August. The calendar combines nature photography with insights into the lives of these seabirds and is aimed at anyone interested in wildlife and Iceland.
We were able to observe the large colonies on the Dyrhólaey peninsula near the town of Vik and in Borgarfjarðarhöfn in the Westfjords for a long time during sunny weather.
All but one of the photos were taken exclusively with my 400mm f/2.8 lens on my Canon EOS R5 Mark II. I was very glad that I had brought this fast lens with me. In my opinion, the combination proved to be ideal, as the results show—apart from the subsequent muscle soreness from holding the approximately 5kg combination for so long 😉
Here is an overview of the images:

Like all my calendars, the 2026 calendar is now available from Calvendo, amazon*, or in bookshops.
